The U.S Department of Justice (DoJ) have charged a 17 years old teenager from Florida accused to be involved directly with the Twitter hack incident occurred on July 15, 2020.
The teenager is entitled to be the mastermind behind all plan to hack the social network short message platform, two more people also have their criminal participation on the attack, a U.K resident and one more resident of Florida.
The "teenager gang" have been traced by FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and the DoJ, with a crucial hand of the Blockchain analytic companies Chainalysis, with concluded with the arrest of the teenager considered the "mind" behind the hack, he face 30 felony charges.
The duo also involved in the attack, was charged with:
Conspiracy to commit wire fraud
Conspiracy to commit money laundering
Conspiracy to commit intentional access of a protected computer.
The incident involving the hack led this "young" criminals to secure 12.86 Bitcoins using high prominent profile figures such as politicians (Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bloomberg...), music industry figures, Crypto exchanges, billionaire Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and many others famous people.
Twitter also released an update regarding their internal investigation and concluded that the attackers successful had access to privileged information from twitter accounts using a phone spear-phishing attack targeting some employees of the social network, with technique could control over 130 accounts and spread the fake Bitcoin giveaway.
