Splinterlands - Battle Library Eight - Outwit, Outplay, Outlast - Outlast might be the key...

If you've ever watched the reality TV show Survivor you'd know it's catchphrase is Outwit, Outplay and Outlast.  In this SPLINTERLANDS battle Outlast might be the key!

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

https://splinterlands.com?ref=silver-edge In Battle Library Eight the team makeup I used was very much based on the concept of Outlast!

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_e95fd4c22ef7b8a7b8cb7ff05e2f4585&ref=silver-edge The rules that applied to this battle were:

- Mana cap of 23 - A reasonable cap to work with

- All splinters except Death allowed

- Silenced Summoners - Summoners don't give any buffs.

With a solid cap, no summoner buffs this was going to be interesting.  I knew the opposition used Water a lot based on his history and use of that nasty legendary, Djinn Oshannus! To make things more difficult I was also using still working on my daily quest - a Life quest and so I went with an outlast them all Life team:

I went with:

Summoner - Mother Khala - For the life splinter since no summoner bonuses were in play

Shieldbearer (8) - in first slot to tank of course with his Taunt ability.

Crystal Werewolf (3) - in second slot to be a backup tank but mainly for the Silence ability to mitigate magic! The silence ability would be particularly effective as Alric would not have his plus one magic buff active!

Armorsmith (2) - in third slot for the armor repair and also the low mana cost

Divine Healer (3) - in fourth slot for the healing

Venari Crystalsmith (4) - in fifth slot for the healing and the ranged attack.

In short this team was based on minimising damage (Crystal Werewolf vs Magic & Armorsmith vs melee/Ranged) and healing (Divine Healer AND Venari Crystalsmith.  The team would struggle if his team had a lot of healing as it only has three damage potential BUT the opposition would have to have even more damage to get past Shieldbearer!

The opponent went with:

Summoner - Alric (3) - For the water splinter only.

Cockatrice (2) - in first slot to tank a shot or two if he was lucky with Flight.

Djinn Oshannus - (8) - in second slot to tank with his high health, void armor, five speed - personally I hate facing this card, I think it should have a higher mana cost it is so powerful!

Venari Wavesmith (5) - in third slot for the magic attack and the plus two armor to the team.

Ice Pixie (2) - in fourth slot for another magic attack and the low mana cost.

Enchanted Pixie (3) in fifth slot for another magic attack and the low mana cost.

A full magic based team - If I had known he'd only focus on magic I might have gone with a  Crystal Werewolf & Clay Golem combo which would have reduced magic damage completely!  Hindsight is 20/20!

And so let the battle begin:

Turn One - Cockatrice goes first and then the rest of his team chipping away at the Shieldbearer.  Then on my turn the armorsmith, divine healer and Venari Crystalsmith all go to work returning Shieldbearer to full health and full armor.  The Crystalsmith does chip at the Cockatrice while Shieldbearer misses.  After this turn I knew I would win provided I didn't miss so much that the game went to "overtime" and Fatigue taking effect.  Even with Fatigue in play (doing increasing damage to the whole board like Earthquake I think I would win anyway!

Turn Two - Fourteen - Each turn continued like turn one but I slowly chipped away at his team.  There were a few misses, Ice Pixie actually lasted a couple of turns at first slot due to misses!  However the outlasting ability of my team meant his team had no chance and the match ended on turn 14 - a long match but satisfying to know I'd outwitted the opposition, outplayed him and most definitely outlasted him!

Hope you enjoyed the battle and if you found it interesting and are not into Splinterlands yet give it a go:
