Nvidia is putting its plan to reduce the hash rate on GeForce cards into action. Three models are significantly throttled.
It is still a problem for the graphics card manufacturer Nvidia that its GeForce hardware is used for mining.
The company announced that it would be issuing GeForce cards with a lower hash rate starting in May. Nvidia offers the GeForce models specially tailored for gamers in addition to separate, dedicated mining hardware.
However, some cracks have found that the GeForce chips are programmable. With some prior knowledge on the part of the user, enough hash power can be generated for mining cryptocurrency.
As a result, some of their computers, which were originally intended for gaming, were used for Ethereum mining. When word got around, hardware prices went up and there still are delivery bottlenecks. So those gamers, for whom the computers were actually designed, were initially left behind. Nvidia had been planning to halve the hash rate of the GTX 3060 card for a long time. According to their announcement, cards 3070 and 3080 are also affected by the change.
They are labeled “Lite Hash Rate” or “LHR” to emphasize the differentiation of the product lines.
