For a couple of days when you would open up the Pi app you would have noticed that the screen was unlike the normal one. You also did not have a ton of options and the app told you it was in Lite Mode but your Pi was all safe and mining would continue. As a newish person to Pi this was the first time I had ever seen this in the 4-5 months I have been using it. I was pretty thrown off by this and was not sure what it meant was going on.
Yesterday a video was added to the home screen however it only appeared to me today (due to my mining having run out). The video explained what had been and at the time was still going on. Pi was undergoing a massive upgrade! Pi now has a rudimentary and very very basic wallet that the team is now testing. This allows you to finally send Pi back and forth to and from people! While it is not going to be available to the masses for a while as I am sure they will have to iron out some bugs as they appear it is a huge thing!
The Pi wallet will be the next thing to really start to give Pi value. Right now people can mine it but there is no other purpose for it. You cannot really do anything with it but to me, it has been a moonshot coin. Whatever value I get out of it is great but it is not like I am expected the coin to be worth $100 or even $10. The technology is what keeps me interested as phone mining is an amazing way to encourage both innovation and adaptation!
This update was a pretty big deal the more you look through it and I cannot wait to see the team continue to roll out these new features to really give Pi some actual usage and value!
