Payment Giant Visa Calls Bitcoin "Digital Gold"

Alfred Kelly, CEO of payment giant Visa, said they see cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin as "digital gold".

“With our global presence, partnership approach, and trusted branding, we believe we are in a unique position to help make cryptocurrencies more secure, convenient and viable for payments,” Kelly said at Visa's Q1 results conference call for fiscal year 2021. said.

Kelly stated that they divided the cryptocurrency market into two segments, the first being assets like Bitcoin, and the second being digital money or stable cryptocurrencies directly backed by existing fiat currencies. CEO stated that they see all currencies in the first group as “digital gold”. Kelly said their strategy here is to allow users to deposit money into their Visa cards to work with wallets and exchanges to enable them to purchase these currencies using Visa cards, or to exchange fiat currency at 70 million merchants with Visa.

"As long as a particular digital currency becomes a well-known payment instrument, there is no reason why we shouldn't add it to our network that supports more than 160 currencies today," said Visa's CEO. He spoke in the form.
