In yet another interesting and controversial move, antivirus software tycoon John McAfee backed down from his claim that Bitcoin price will hit $1 million by 2020. He said that his claim was only humor.

Billionaire at it again

John McAfee has made several claims about cryptocurrencies in the past. He once claimed to know who the real Satoshi Nakamoto is but couldn’t provide legitimate answers to the same. The eccentric billionaire has previously been a US Presidency aspirant as well. In 2018 too, he said that Bitcoin price will reach $1 million in the same year.

He tweeted recently, I’m the person who predicted Bitcoin, the most crippled crypto-tech, would reach $1 mil. Are you one of the persons who did not see the absurd humor in it?”

He then said,

“Put a different way: If Bitcoin ever hit $1 mil, it’s market cap would be greater than the GDP of the entire North American Continent. What idiot could believe such nonsense?”

Bitcoin is ancient

On January 5 this year, McAfee said that Bitcoin is ancient technology. He said that it was the first and a ruse to bring some users to onboard. However, his contempt for Bitcoin comes at a time when the currency has already conducted its halving.

John McAfee is no stranger to controversy beyond the crypto realm as well. In 2012, he had to flee his Belizean home after suspicions arose that he has killed his neighbor. He was living in exile in a boat from where he tried to launch his failed campaign to become US president. He even encouraged views to view his speech in which he asked the world to buy guns so they could stop their neighbors from stealing their food.

He also said that his $1 million predictions were “absurd humor” and asked people if they didn’t see it coming.
