The new generation of Nvidia video cards - the RTX 3000 series has once again attracted the attention of mainlanders. Preliminary tests by Cointelegraph - RTX 3080 and 3090 show that Ethereum mainstream video cards can reach 90 MH / s and 115 MH / s, which is twice the improvement of the current most popular video cards - both Nvidia and AMD on the market.
Kristy-Leith Minehana, a former technical director at Core Scientific and one of the authors of the ProgPoW proposal, said the RTX 3000 series would be "better than AMD".
Minehana compared the RTX 3080 to the Radeon 5700 XT - AMD's closest competitor. 3080 can be bought for about $ 600-700, but 5700 XT - for about $ 400. The AMD hashrate is around 51 MH / s, while the Nvidia video card is expected to offer at least 90 MH / s. The Nvidia video card consumes 320 W and the AMD 225 W. However, the higher hashrate compensates for this difference.
In terms of price and hashrate, the 5700 XT is able to compete with the RTX 3080. The more powerful RTX 3090, which costs $ 1,500 by adding a hashrate of 10-15%, makes concessions to the cheapest model.
Thus, unlike previous generations, Nvidia's new RTX 3000 series in the Ethereum is quite competitive with AMD. The RTX 2000 series was more expensive compared to AMD - with the same or lower hashrate.
