Lets look at how this has given Bitcoin a new lease in life.
The issue with Bitcoin is that it was just too slow, and transactions were just taking too long. And since each transaction needs to be verified, more and more people are seeing long waits to receive their bitcoin.
What TapRoot does it take multisig, (multiple signature transactions) and single sig lump them together, making it harder for anyone to identify those in the transaction. For those who like to remain anonymous, this is a great feature. But for those who dont like a free, unmasked people to remain anonymous, they disagree with the upgrade.
Now this upgrade is the first MAJOR one in 4 years, and was met with very little resistance. Most people know that Bitcoin has scalability issues, and was in need of a faster transaction. Now, with TapRoot, many transactions can be made at once, and everyone can be happy.
This could also make Bitcoin more mainstream because of how it is able to scale a bit more, and the transaction fees are much lower.
We needed this upgrade, even if there are a few folks who dont think it will be any better than before. It will be. And in time, there will be other upgrades that the people will hate.
Maybe Satoshi didnt foresee the scalability issue, and didnt know that transactions would be slower due to heavy traffic, but he knew that this tech was needed, and understood that to be a free people, we need to make transactions that the elites couldnt trace. That is what he did with Bitcoin.
