How to mine digibyte (dgb) in 2022

Do repost and rate:

Digibyte (DGB) is loosely based on Bitcoin's (BTC) code. It also uses proof of Work (POW) and is thus mineable. However, unlike Bitcoin, it is lightning fast (seconds) and fees are minimal or non-existent. The aim/intention of the project is securing and storing documents and other files (similar to Arweave and Filecoin).

As far as mining DigiByte is concerned, you needn't necessarily own/use an ASIC (since some of the algorithms are ASIC-resistant); it is possible to mine it on an ordinary computer with a decent CPU and/or GPU (AMD or nVidia). There are five algorithms from which you can choose, in order to do so. Below, I give a list of algorithms and what you'll need to make use of each, in terms of hardware and pools. (What you choose depends on your hardware and preferred mining pool.)

1. SHA-256 (Antminer ASIC): BlocksFactory or iSpace.co.uk

2. Skein (1070 Ti or 1080 Ti nVidia GPU): BlocksFactory or MiningField

3. Groestl (AMD GPU): BlocksFactory or Suprnova.cc

4. Scrypt (Antminer ASIC): BlocksFactory or P2Pool

5. Qubit (Antminer ASIC/CPU/GPU): BlocksFactory or Suprnova.cc

Although it is possible to solo mine, pooled mining is by far the easiest and most popular method. The DigiHash pool can be used for all of the above and is officially supported by the DigiByte project, since some of the mining rewards go to maintaining the network. A caveat of which to be aware is that it charges a 5% mining fee, making it somewhat unpopular. Of course, it's best to choose a pool that has a low percentage of influence (in order to avoid/reduce the 51% problem). The other pools from which you can choose depend on which algorithm you choose.

Miners optimised for the Myriad-Groestl algorithm seem to be the most profitable. Versions of both SGMiner and CCMiner that support it can be downloaded from BlocksFactory.

Since I don't have (and can't afford) a decently beefy graphics card, my only real option is CPU mining. Judging from past experience using it to mine Raptoreum (RTM), it's unlikely to be worth my while.

A number of the articles referenced date back to 2021. The last one given in the resources is the most up to date (February 2022). Always use a mining profitability calculator to determine if it's worth your while mining any particular cryptocurrency, since your profit margins may vary.

For instructions on setting up and running the particular mining software you are going to use, consult its documentation and help. Usually, these are also available from the mining pools' Websites.
