I’m sure some of you clicked on this article ready to flame about how he (Hal Finney) isn’t, or couldn’t be “the REAL Satoshi Nakamoto”, and to that I have to say... step off bitch, we are all Satoshi.
But in a more literal sense... he was at least a KNOWN part of the team of people or singular person that was “Satoshi”. When we talk about creating something, we can’t just credit one person with the whole thing as long as others had hands in it. To this end I’m SURE the “real” Satoshi himself would agree (as he referenced his code’s sources where applicable in his white paper).
With this in mind it is almost impossible to deny that Hal was Satoshi, or much more likely PART OF the group(s) of individuals who formed the Satoshi “Group”.
Hal was the first person to have actually seen the code base or worked on it in any capacity outside Satoshi (or the group of people that maybe considered Satoshi) to add another point to him enough to be considered a “creator” of the platform. He was the first person outside of Satoshi to receive bitcoins ever. Of all time, which is huge and massively important in a P2P network, to add more over too it, the “real satoshi” in a email correspondence with Hal, had mentioned in the early days of bitcoin that Hal was the SOLE SUPPORTER of the network, contributing 100% of the hash power and (all be it, not needed because him and Satoshi were the only people using the network but still) it was only because of Hal that there is not a complete drop off to a zero at a point in network hash rate soon after the mining of the genesis block.
Regardless of what people may want to believe in their own mind about the definition of a creator VS early adopter in this particular instance its impossible to deny given blockchain analytics that Hal Finney was at least a small combination of both if not the biggest contributor to the project.
