Pi Network is currently a mobile device based cryptocurrency in it's infancy. The number of users is hovering somewhere around 10million worldwide, and the functionality is near non-existent at this point. A testnet for nodes is in the works, and will run for some period of time before the mainnet is implemented.
That being said, there isn't much reason to hold back from participating in the project right now, the app is easy to install and get started with and you can check in once a day to maintain your active status and continue to earn Pi passively on your device. Whatever the future value is for the Pi currency, it would be better than not participating.
