Gala Games: Town Star, a Blockchain game

Blockchain games have been gaining some momentum as of late. TOWN STAR was the first of its kind for me. I love gaming with a passion so this discovery sure left me excited. So lets get right into it!

Gala Games has a nice team working behind them, with experience from the makers of FarmVille and Words with Friends. They have a vision to give power back to the players through freedom of play. First of all Gala Games will be free to play meaning no purchases will be required to play. Any assets or items acquired in game will belong to the player. Meaning that because of the blockchain technology players will be able to perform their own actions with the items they acquired, such as trade, sell or gift at their own disposal. This will allow players to make their own decisions concerning their in-game items taking full credit for the transactions made.

Town Star

Town Star is a town building simulation game. Simple idea, manage your town and score points by selling items in the game. Each server that is available has a time limit allowing for fair competitive play. At the end of each round scores are added up and ranks are issued out. There are a few exclusive limited items with awesome perks to reward those early birds supporting the platform. These items that are acquired will be stored in an inventory, and may be used during your gameplay. More items and rewards are expected to launch as the game evolves into this new blockchain platform.

Town star has a nice look to its platform. The game is a little difficult to start off since it lacks a tutorial. I found the information here to be really helpful https://townstarguide.com/ Once you start the game, you will be prompted to choose a location, make sure to check the guide for an extensive explanation. Your starting location is critical and my suggestion would be to stick near a city. Gas is much more difficult to manage, and the further you are from a city the more gas it requires to sell your goods. Once your location is chosen, you will jump into your town. Here you will notice your layout. Some things to keep in mind:

  • Tall buildings cast shade, so keep them away from crops
  • Buildings will also block wind so keep your windmill and wind turbine clear of other buildings.
  • Some buildings like the refinery will also create pollution so keep them clear from other buildings and crops.
  • Crops will benefit from being near water sources like a pond or a river.
  • Keep track of your labor cost, labor is paid every MINUTE!! So manage your money wisely.
  • There are 3 different terrain types you may start in, each with their own pros and cons.
  • Forest terrain starts off with a lot of ponds that can be sold for 5k each, a nice trick to gain some funds for early development.

Most things will be learned as you play, you may reset your town free of cost as many times as you need. it is a new game but I believe it has lots of potential for growth. The type of game it is along with its playful artwork will make it desirable for young and casual gamers, but the points and ranking system allow for fun friendly competition for those that want the added challenge. Especially being so early on in its development phase, along with the recent rise in crypto acceptance, I can see this team taking off with this game.

Speaking of their potential Gala Games has a new game in the making 'Mirandus'. An RPG world where players will have absolute freedom of how they choose to play. In this world players will be able to purchase 'Land deeds' allowing that player to claim parts of the wilderness and set up a holdfast ranging from small farms to massive cities. Players who qualify to be one of the 5 Kings in Mirandus also will be able to work along with the developers in giving feedback upon their experience and how they feel about the game. Awesome opportunities being brought back into the players hands!

My final thoughts on this game.. It is still in early Beta and I am still a little confused as to how often gala tokens is distributed, how to qualify to receive gala tokens and the game just lacks a proper tutorial. Other than that the game has been smooth to play, its easily accessible via web, free to play, nice graphics and the 'ownership' idea behind it seals the deal for me. I have only stopped playing for now due to the projects (other blockchain platforms) that I am currently trying out. But I definitely plan on re-visiting in the future, with hopes that the development team can roll out some nice new features. Hopefully a tutorial and more info upon gala tokens and how they are acquired.
