FTX co-founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is one of the largest contributors to the presidential campaign of Joe Biden, according to data from political financial tracking platform OpenSecrets.
- FTX.US, of which Bankman-Fried is the CEO, contributed $5.22 million to Biden’s campaign during the 2020 cycle; Other donors include Bloomberg, Alphabet, Y Combinator and Renaissance Technologies
- Bankman-Fried himself made the contribution, as organizations themselves are not allowed to make contributions, but individuals members are allowed to do so
- Presidential candidate Joe Biden is one the verge of securing the presidency, 6 electoral votes shy of the 270 required, according to estimations by the Associated Press
- The FTX exchange's US presidential election prediction markets, which FTX introduced earlier this year, have seen large trading volumes in the run up to election day
- The TRUMP and BIDEN tokens are respectively priced at 0.145 and 0.864, which represent each candidate's probability of winning - the prices indicating that users believe that Biden has an 86% chance of winning the election
- Bankman-Fried is also the CEO of Alameda Research, which has been on an investment spree, funding trading platform 3Commas and and oracle provider Razor Network
