Ethereum 2.0 also famous as Eth2 or Serenity is the upgrade to the initial or you can say previous Ethereum Blockchain. Ethereum 2.0 was scheduled to release in multiple phases in the year 2020 itself.
Ethereum 2.0 is said to improve the current Ethereum blockchain functionality and performance with each phase.
Also the current Ethereum is usin POW (Proof of Work) and the upgrade to the current blockchain will be using POS (Proof of Stake) shard chains.
But don't worry you will be able to transfer them from POWto a shard chains easily.
What is the progress of Eth2
Ethereum 2.0 is almost around the corner, with the much awaited network upgrade switching from proof of work to a proof-of-stake model. But there will be one more brief stop before it can go live.
The Foundation annouced the launch of the second parallel testnet known as spadina which will be working alongside currently active testnet Medalla.
There is a reason why these two are going to stay together and i.e that the team does not want to disrupt developers who are already testing Medalla but at the same time they also want an updation to the current version of the testnet that will allow to test out certain specific elements by the developers.
So when is the official launch planned for...?
First of all it is to be noted that the current ethereum network is already in a continuous stress due to ample demand , resulting in the hike of transaction fees.
Anyways , the mainnet launch for the Ethereum 2.0 is currently being planned for the month of November.
however if you have followed along and read about Ethereum 2.0 oftenly then you might be knowing that the launch has already been delayed several times.
And Ethereum Foundation Researcher Justin Drake wrote in the month of July that the launch may extend till January 2021.
Now from these multiple delays we can say that the Ethereum Foundation are still facing difficulties in the testing before they can bring it to mainnet.
another small thing is that the Spadina testnet will be line later this month.
