Energy Web, a low-carbon energy accelerator using blockchain-based solutions, has announced its partnership with information standards and certification organization for the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) industry, SunSpec Alliance. As per the official announcement, the two organizations have joined hands to co-develop digital standards, certifications, protocols, and solutions to support the “plug and play” system interoperability for the energy storage tech and solar PV.

SunSpec Alliance is an organization comprising of more than 100 companies working towards building a DER-centric future. The members of the trade alliance include manufacturers, service providers, and developers, from Asia, North America, and Europe, who have come together with the objective of setting up standards for the DER industry.
Commenting on the collaboration with Energy Web, Tom Tansy, Chairman of SunSpec Alliance, stated that distributed solar storage is the centerpiece of the electricity system.
Tom added,
Energy Web aims to accelerate low-carbon electric systems by applying modern technologies like blockchain. The organization has also built the Energy Web Decentralized Operating System (EW-DOS), a decentralized open-source network, which allows customer-owned devices to join the energy markets. Speaking on their partnership with SunSpec Alliance, Chief Commercial Officer of Energy Web, Jesse Morris, said,
Morris further added that the “soft” infrastructure they will build together would speed up the innovation and adoption of low-carbon energy in the future. In a Medium post, Energy Web informed that according to a Bloomberg forecast, about $4.2 billion and $843 million would be invested in solar and battery energy storage respectively by 2050. Moreover, they said that the globally installed solar capacity stands at 627 GW, out of which 115 GWDC was added last year.
