A popular idea lately, particularly with the advent of US presidential candidate Andrew Yang, is Universal Basic Income, or UBI. The main idea is taht everyone, regardless of need or desire to work, should be provided a basic income that can cover their most basic survival expenses. This not only guarantees that the poor and jobless will be provided for, but that no one will struggle in a difficult and undesirable job just to get by, and they will instead have the freedom to pursue their interests or work towards higher paying work down the road. Here I break down why UBI may be a solution to a problem created by government, the same institution we seek to implement UBI.
