Dash's goal and future

As I mentioned in my previous posts about DASH, tits goal is to become digital cash that is fast, private and easy to use. Everything in Dash is therefore set up to strive towards this goal.

The process of changing the protocol, codenamed “Evolution”, thus aims to guarantee considerably improving the user experience, in particular by implementing a decentralized system of user names within Dash Platform. The Dash wallet could become as easy to use as PayPal or Venmo.

Among the short-term use cases targeted by Dash, we find:

  • Remittances abroad.
  • Trading: transactions instantly finalized thanks to InstantSend and ChainLocks allow you to move large funds quickly and easily between two trading platforms.
  • Commercial adoption in countries experiencing a monetary crisis like Venezuela.
  • The cannabis market in the United States.

In the long term, Dash aims to become a fully-fledged currency, widely adopted and used around the world, typically in developing countries.

Pros and Cons of Dash

Dash is a system that has certain strengths, which distinguish it from its direct competitors like Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin or Monero:

  • Almost instant confirmations thanks to the InstantSend application, which improves Internet commerce.
  • Integrated confidentiality thanks to PrivateSend.
  • A well-maintained node infrastructure, thanks to masternodes.
  • An internal governance system making Dash a CAD and allowing to decide on difficult questions.
  • A treasury system used to finance the various activities essential to the project: development, education, adoption, marketing, etc.

But Dash also has weaknesses, which are not negligible:

  • A launchover that gives Dash a bad reputation: more than 2 million DASHs were mined in the first 48 hours, or 20% of the current money supply.
  • A concentration of powers in the hands of the masternodes.
  • A budget allocation problem: masternodes are not always the most perceptive when it comes to allocating money.
  • Imperfect confidentiality, in theory not offering the same guarantees as Monero and being only optional. However, PrivateSend is still completely acceptable for most cases.
