Dash Core Group announced this week that they will be hosting an open house to showcase the upcoming launch of Dash Platform release, commonly known as Evolution, for the open-source developer community:

The event is geared at showcasing the long-awaited Dash Platform, which is set for testnet release soon after, to the broader developer community, highlighting aspects of the platform and how it works in order for developers to gain an understanding of what is possible and to brainstorm the creation of their own decentralized applications. The tentative agenda listed on the newly released website includes covering subjects such as an introduction to Dash Platform, Dash DAPI and Drive, Dashpay-enabled wallets, developer portal, release process, community and communication, and a Q&A session, with the agenda subject to change.
Dash Core also encourages anyone interested in attending to also RSVP via the meetup link on the website because even though attendance is free due to limited space and planning purposes. Finally, potential attendees are reminded that accommodations can be booked via Travala.com, the official travel partner of Dash Core Group, and receive 7% back when paying with Dash.
How did Dash Platform evolve into its current state
The platform codenamed Dash Evolution had an initial goal to evolve Dash beyond a basic cryptocurrency platform into a more advanced payments ecosystem appealing to a more broad and non-technical user base with a more user-friendly design, primarily including blockchain usernames and contact lists. However, over the years, Dash Core Group has iterated through different executable strategies of the idea and has evolved into the concept of Dash Platform, a technology stack for developing decentralized applications, or DApps. This technology stack will launch will four main attributes:
- Drive — document-oriented database for storing and querying metadata
- Identities — unique identities for users, applications and other entities
- Dash Platform Name Service — decentralized and enhanced DNS
- DAPI — decentralized HTTP API to communicate with the platform
Ivan Shumkov, a Dash Core Platform developer added that the addition of more features is planned in the future, but the exact stack is not set as of yet. Additionally, “Dash Platform will run exclusively on the masternode network” since “[c]ompared to using the entire Dash network, this is a much more scalable solution because masternodes will be economically incentivized to provide high-quality service”. Overall, the development team found a better solution by running Dash Platform on a second chain.
“Ultimately, the decision to use a second chain was driven by our goal of providing the best possible user experience, one that is indistinguishable from non-crypto apps, while retaining the security benefits of a blockchain. The Platform Chain emerged as a way to achieve the speed/finality necessary for the UX and support the network/storage scalability of the system. It also simplified the architecture by decoupling the Platform and the existing chain. Combined, these advantages make the introduction of a second chain the obvious choice.”
Dash Platform will enable the creation of a wide variety of DApps on the Dash network’s robust infrastructure. It is set for release this year on public testnet, which will allow potential developers to design, create, and test their own DApps before the platform launches on mainnet, ensuring a fully stable and well-tested platform and applications before full commercial release.
