Imagine a world where corrupted governments, banks and big companies rule everything around you. They control finance, the media and everything else. They shape people's opinions and direct everything wherever they want. Wait a minute... I think I just gave a perfect description of the modern world!
In today's society, Big Tech has become so powerful, that not only individuals, but also companies, governments and other organizations cannot really control it. On the contrary, it controls them! Try to post something on social media that is not so "politically correct" as Big Tech wants it to be, like for example that there are only two genders (!), and you are going to be banned from their platform.
Let's say that social media banning you is not a big deal, maybe it's a good chance for you to spend more time on your real life. Don't rush, the rabbit hole goes deeper than that. Financial institutions can close down your PayPal, bank, or any other financial account and block you from accessing their services again due to your political beliefs for example.
So, you have two options. First is to conform with them and try to pretend that you are someone you are not in order to continue having access to their services and second is to live your life socially and financially excluded. Both sound terrible, don't they?
What if I told you that there is a third option? Yes, you guessed it right. It's the blockchain. Immutable and uncensorable by nature, the blockchain takes the power from the rulers and gives it back to the individual. Nobody can censor a social media that operates as a smart-contract on the Ethereum chain backed up by the hashing power of millions devices. No one can close your Bitcoin wallet, for the exact same reasons. There is no government, no company and no organization powerful enough to fight or censor this.
That's why I think that all this hype around crypto and the technology behind it, should not only be focused on the financial part. It opens us the door to a new Era, to the Era of Freedom. People that are socially or financially excluded can now get their human rights back. Access to information should be free for everyone.
