The adoption of Bitcoin has seen growth in the last few years with articles being posted on a regular basis regarding payment in Bitcoin for goods and services. This trend is continuing to grow rapidly, bringing Bitcoin to the attention of the people who have no clue about cryptocurrency.
Coca Cola, the worlds largest cold beverage company and one of the most recognisable brands in the world has made a bold move towards cryptocurrencies. They have issued more than 2,000 vending machines across Australia and New Zealand accepting Bitcoin. This has the potential to put cryptocurrencies in the view of the masses, having the potential to most likely bring new users/investors to the space or the very least major attention.
A Crypto friendly country Singapore is home to a car pooling platform called Ryde. They have announced customers would be able to pay in Bitcoin from 22 June 2020 when the app is updated to accept it as a form of payment. Ryde will also be adding additional cryptocurrencies for payment in the near future. The CEO of the firm Zou said that the coronavirus outbreak caused a demand for cryptocurrency payments within the country. He suggests that Ryde will be a catalyst for cryptocurrency adoption within Singapore.
Cryptocurrencies have achieved tons of mile stones since the very first cryptocurrency Bitcoin 11 years ago. Many have gained adoption and attention globally, changing technology, businesses and finance as we know it. We are not far from mass global adoption, with new businesses using the technology behind cryptocurrencies or using the currency itself. If Ryde is amongst the first ride hailing firms to accept Bitcoin, what's the likes of Uber to follow suit for a rapid adoption? Change is inevitable in my opinion...
