Popular crypto exchange Coinbase made history airing the first cryptocurrency ad in the Super Bowl history.

Coinbase’s latest advertisement at the Super Bowl is being praised left and right as a simple-yet-effective marketing move. The exchange simply featured a DVD player’s screensaver-style QR code bouncing around the screen for an exact 60-second timeline.

Upon scanning the QR code, viewers were directly led to Coinbase’s website where it promoted a limited period giveaway of $15 worth of Bitcoin to new sign-ups. Users can avail of the offer only until February 15th.

The ad gained abundant traction, leading to heavy traffic on the landing page. Needless to say, the exchange’s app took the brunt for it and crashed soon after the ad was aired. The website was down for a few minutes as the crypto exchange sought measures to throttle the traffic.

Cryptocurrency ads stuck out the most during the Super Bowl ad space this year after crypto platforms FTX, Crypto.com, eToro, and Coinbase all featured advertisements at the event. While the platforms did not reveal how much they paid to advertise, a 30-second is estimated to cost around $7 million.
