Brave Rewards now pays content creators in any of 67 currencies

As many Publish0xers will know, BRAVE is a web browser that rewards users with a token called BAT (Basic Attention Token). Users can in turn choose to reward publishers and other content creators with any or all of the BAT they have accrued. Brave's decision to end its Referral Program has received a lot of attention recently - meaning that a recent improvement to Brave has gone almost completely unnoticed.

Previously, content creators who were signed up to the Brave Rewards scheme received their monthly payout in BAT. But now they can choose to receive it in a fiat currency (GBP if you are a Brit like me, for example), one of a number of cryptocurrencies (ETH, TRX, DASH, BCH and more), or even in a commodity such as gold (XAU, XAG and so on).

In total, 67 different payment options are available - in fact, you can choose to be paid in any of the currencies listed in Uphold. Your payment will be made directly into your Uphold account in the second week of the month.

Why is this useful?

You may be wondering why I am excited about this new option. Well, I personally do like BAT and think it is something of a sleeping giant. However, as BAT is built on the Ethereum blockchain, withdrawing BAT to an external wallet incurs the standard network fee. (I understand that Uphold has in the past waived the network fee for BAT transfers, but sadly this is not the case any more.)

As I write this, I would be looking at a network fee of 9.7 BAT (approximately $2.60) to make a BAT withdrawal from Uphold. That might not sound much - but for small publishers like me, the fee works out to be quite a high percentage of the monthly Brave Rewards creators' payout.

However, receiving your publisher payout from Brave Rewards in a currency other than BAT should enable you to then withdraw your funds from Uphold for a smaller network fee. The network fee for a BCH (Bitcoin Cash) transaction, for example, is absolutely negligible.

Disclaimer: I haven't actually tried doing this yet! But I will give it a go with my next Brave Rewards creators' payout and let the PUBLISH0X community know how I get on. Also, just to be absolutely clear, this option is only available for content creators - browser users are still rewarded in BAT for opting in to ads, as has always been the case.

Choosing your payment option

Content creators signed up to Brave Rewards should have already received an email from Uphold outlining how to choose their preferred payout currency. But for future reference, it's pretty simple. Just log into Brave Rewards creators and click the 'Change' link under 'Uphold Wallet':

Then choose your preferred currency from the dropdown list and click 'Save':

Is anyone else here a Brave Rewards creator? Which currency will you be choosing to receive your monthly payout in?
