Brave expands into Privacy News Reader!

Brave - yes the privacy browser people, have expanded into the realm of protecting users privacy when they go to get news.  BRAVE is attempting to differentiate itself among other browsers by continuing to protect users (Users should not be the product.)  The goal is to prevent third party and internal users (think rogue employee or high level plant) from gaining access to user info such as sites visited, articles read etc.

What is being released? A new service called 'Brave Today' a personalized news service that doesn't leave a trail which typically allow ISPs or third parties to track users. Its a Brave owned Content Delivery Network (CDN) that is providing services that neither Google or Fakebook can or will offer.  Recall the big tech firms build profiles of users overtime and then apply artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to ascertain lots from the users IP (Internet Protocol) address.  Brave Today'  is different in that it separates the user IP from the content they request. The user request is handled by a load-balancer and then passes the request to the CDN. The request is encrypted via TLS (Transport Layer Security) and thus hides the request nor its content is known.   Brave then takes another step by separating the load balancing and requests to different providers. To add more layers of obscurity Brave will add 'padding' to the IP packet to make it harder to determine what is in the payload.

Brave Today CDN is not done securing your data, they will randomly strip out headers to again make the process of putting the whole picture together more difficult.

Hold on - Brave then took steps to prevent inside bypass (i.e. employees) to restrict access to the Load Balancer account and then restricts log access too. And has signed an agreement w/ the providers that they can't access the logs even if Brave requests the logs.

Summary - a way to chip back some privacy, its not the whole thing but a very good start if you ask me

Disclaimer - I am not an agent, nor an employee of Brave just someone who read a good story about privacy and wanted to share it out

Here's to more privacy not less!
