Hello, friends!
I've got some good news and some bad news:
The bad news:
As we've seen coming for quite some time, the awesome BRAVE Browser referral program is finally reaching its conclusion. As of November 23rd, new referrals (first opens) driven by referrers will no longer be eligible for payout.
The good news:
By removing this referral-payout expense from their balance sheet, Brave will have a much larger cash reserve to inject into improving the overall product. Think
- Hiring new programmers
- Greater leverage when luring in larger advertisers to the platform
- Faster & better feature rollouts, ushering in:
1. Better Brave experience
2. Happier users
3. More organic user growth
4. Increased demand for $BAT
5. Upward pressure on $BAT price
In short...BULLISH
While it's never a great feeling to see a source of free crypto fade away, every long-term BAT hodler should take this news as a very bullish signal. As the world's most successful companies have shown us (Amazon & Tesla for example), ultra-lucrative referral programs are not meant to be a lifelong offer.
Their purpose is clear: reward early adopters for speeding up new user growth. Once this mission is complete, and there is a large enough foundation to support organic growth of the business, the referral program ends.
What does this mean for us Brave referrers?
Creators using the Brave referral program have 14 days to pump out their final payout-qualified referrals!
In specific dates:
- After November 23rd, referrals (first opens) driven by referrers will no longer be eligible for payout.
- Brave will pay out on confirmations that occur before December 24th. A confirmation is a 30 day active user of Brave.
- Final payments for December confirmations will be made in early January 2021.
BUT WAIT there's more...
NEW Brave referral program on the way?
This is one of the more cryptic messages included in the official announcement on the Brave website:
"We are planning a new referral program adapted to our scale and to our community. We hope to share details in early 2021. In the interim, and to facilitate the transition, a select number of referrers will assist Brave."
-Brave.com
To this I say: color me interested!
It's important that we temper our expectations since overall referral spending is in rollback mode, but regardless of this, I'll be keeping a close eye on this "new" referral program.
If any Brave/BAT employees are reading this, consider this my application to be a part of this new referrer group! ;)
That's all for today, folks!
Keep calm and stack BAT,
-Ben
