Bitcoin in professional sports: Would you get punched in the face for Bitcoin?

Well would you?

With the rise of cryptocurrencies and the almost unstoppable acceleration during the pandemic with interest in this space, it's no surprise that rewards in crypto have started to make their way into the arena of sports.

At the recent Gamebred FC event, a bare-knuckled MMA event created by UFC superstar Jorge Masvidal, fighters that were awarded performance of the night were each given a LEDGER hardware wallet with $5k loaded onto each. Not too bad at all if you ask me but then again, not so sure I'd want to get punched in the face for it.

I'm sure this is one of many events that will start to bring pay outs on cryptocurrencies. Over time, this could make particular events and promotions more lucrative for athletes as your earning potential could be more than expected. $5k of Bitcoin today could easily grow to 4x that or more in a years time, whereas a flat $5k in fiat (USD) is just $5k right now and certainly less in a years time.

As I say, it will be interesting to see how crypto incentives start to make their way across sporting events like this and whether this will provide a new financial platform for athletes at all levels to make more money.

And, this is not limited to the world of physical sports either.

The world of E-Sports is very familiar with crypto pay outs for event participation and even sponsorship. Today, top performers are paid in traditional fiat for multi-year contracts but perhaps, very soon, we'll see this shift to crypto too.

So, just know, that there are many ways to earn crypto in our ever changing world. Perhaps your hands of steel could make you a Bitcoin or two...
