Even though I've been dabbling in cryptocurrencies for about two years, I've recently fully retired and now have more time to devote to this interest. I'm certainly no expert, nor am I rich. I've worked long and hard to accumulate the modest amount of coins and tokens I hold in various wallets. As such, I want to hold on to that which I've accumulated and not get scammed out of the coins and tokens I hold. So this article is a warning to all those newbies and novices who hold Tron and Tether balances on Tron Link.
A few weeks ago, I opened my Tron Link account to check my balances. While scrolling down the asset list I discovered that I'd acquired 34806 units of VCC Swap. Imagine my surprise. Originally I thought that the drop may have been from an airdrop I signed up for in the past. Then I thought maybe it was a gift from some other project I engaged with. So, with the thought of making some free money, I was initially elated.
But quickly, my elation turned to doubt. Yes, airdrops can give you free money, but this VCC Swap came out of thin air. I grew more and more skeptical so I decided to look further. I clicked on the asset in my list and hit details. In the detail page, which by the way looked totally legit, I found a link to the home page for VCC Swap. What popped up was a page allowing me to exchange my free VCC Swap for Tron at a very attractive rate. While I was tempted, I did not attempt the exchange. And boy, I'm glad I didn't.
Now, there are a lot of scams out there. You see, you are sent some amount of a non descript token on Tron Link by a nefarious character who is hoping you will go to his site and attempt to exchange the bogus tokens. If you fall for the scam, Tron is stolen from your account. Please, do your research and hold on to your hard earned coins and tokens. They are better in your pocket than in the account of some scammer.
VCC Swap is only one of the scams out there. Personally, I have also received Aave, Balancer, InstSwap, MboxSwap, UnicSwap and WIP as unwelcome additions to my Tron Link account. And I'm sure that there are many more out there.
So please, don't enrich the scammers of the world and preserve your personal assets. Be careful out there.
