An introduction

This is just a short introduction to my articles and entries documenting my education on cryptocurrency. I am sure much of what I learn will be old news to the crypto-veterans out there. However, for those new to this wondrous landscape of cryptocurrencies, I think much of what I find out will be helpful.

I have not been this excited about digital technology since the late 90's when I was a developer on many of the crazy, sometimes creative, but sometimes stupid dot-coms that helped fuel the dot-com bubble! Unless you were in that environment it is hard to describe the atmosphere back then. Money was flowing freely, the pay was great, (but hours were very long!), and demand for the skillset was high. Until it fell off a cliff overnight (I got a 1-hour notice before being laid off from the consulting firm I had been working in at the time). All of a sudden the market got flooded with talent and jobs were few and far between. I remember getting turned down for a job and the recruiter said "We think you'd be perfect for the job, but this other guy has a Master's degree!" To get a job went from just needing to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ASP Classic to requiring a Master's degree. The current period involving cryptocurrency seems very similar to those times which, to be honest, frightens me, but it also excites me because of the creativity and cutting-edge applications and concepts I am finding within the cryptocurrency and blockchain communities!

Here are some of the goals I have for myself and some of the areas I am experimenting with to see how they work:

  • Mine a cryptocurrency using a physical machine
  • Learn how to set up and run a Masternode
  • Identify a project that has goals I can be passionate about, and figure out ways to become involved in helping it succeed
  • Experiment with crypto faucets
  • Identify legitimate opportunities
  • Avoid losing too much in scams! (lol!)
  • Try to see if I can be successful doing some affiliate marketing

The more I dig into what is out there the longer the list of things I want to try gets. I am keeping track of the money I spend in the hopes that I can at least break even - at which point considering the newfound knowledge I have gathered I will consider it a win!

Except - currently I am distracted by a faucet-type casual game which is preventing me from get moving on some of the above because I can't stop playing it.

Maybe that's a good topic for my first post...
