Entrepreneur Alistair Milne posted on his Twitter tips on how to enter his cryptocurrency wallet. But before the subscribers could figure out the code word, a hacker intervened

An unknown user received 1 bitcoin or about $ 9500 for participating in the experiment. It was arranged by crypto-investor and IT director of Altana Digital Currency Fund Alistair Milne. He decided to check how much information and time it would take for hackers to crack a digital wallet with cryptocurrency.

To do this, Milne at the end of May created an address to which he sent 1 BTC. Then the entrepreneur began to post tips on his Twitter account. It was assumed that with their help, subscribers would be able to unravel a 12-word seed phrase and use it to gain access to the wallet.

However, when Milne published tips for 8 words, a hacker intervened. He learned the remaining four words by a selection method, which took 44 hours, and then took Bitcoin from his wallet. Milne suggested that the cracker leased several video cards to speed up the process, as he expected that accessing the address in this way would take several weeks.

One of Milna Cheta's subscribers stated that he was a hacker who had taken the cryptocurrency, but did not provide any evidence. Another user suggested that a special service was used to select the passphrase, which can be found on GitHub. Milne himself regretted conducting the experiment because of allegations that the whole story was rigged.

In early June, the Bitgrin cryptocurrency network crashed. The miner received 5 billion XBG or almost $ 18 million for finding one block . Moreover, the total issue of the asset is only 21 million tokens. Thus, the miner at a time mined 24,000% more coins than they should have existed.
