Popular lifestyle magazine Playboy is putting its step into the crypto ecosystem and within the much popular NFT market. Joining hands with blockchain-powered auction hub Nifty Gateway, Playboy has launched its first-ever digital art NFT collection.
Starting today, May 4, Playboy will host its virtual art gallery showing up its NFT work. All these Playboy NFTs shall be seen in the Decentraland metaverse. Playboy’s virtual art gallery will have a range of NFTs created by digital collage artist Slimesunday in partnership with Playboy‘s editorial curators dubbed “Liquid Summer”.
Each of these digital art NFTs reflects Playboy’s legacy of provocative entertainment. Speaking about his work to Hyperbeat publication, Slimesunday said:
“My process has always involved scanning images from magazines, so when Playboy offered full access to their archive everything really came full circle for me. Working with Executive Editor Liz Suman and the entire Playboy team has allowed me to get the full story behind each image in a deeper way than I normally would be able to.”
Hosting Virtual NFTs on Decentraland
As said, Playboy shall be hosting its virtual art gallery and digital art NFTs on the Decentraland metaverse. Decentraland’s Dave Carr said that Playboy’s decision is quite in alignment with its creative edge. “Playboy has always been synonymous with innovation and pushing boundaries,” added Carr.
Having got access to the fully-customized virtual gallery in Decentraland’s Crypto Valley, Hyperbeast describes initial visuals. The entry has a floor-to-ceiling sign boasting the collection name. The attached rooms have “newcomers, where each large-scale, virtual piece is displayed atop grey walls”. Upon visiting the entire art collection, a co-branded bar serves users virtual drinks. The space also will feature live events like DJs and parties. Playboy executive Liz Suman told Hyperbeast;
“We wanted to make a big ‘splash’ with Playboy’s first collection of NFTs — and the first digital Playboy cover ever to be sold — so it just made sense for us to celebrate the launch in a virtual art gallery in the metaverse given how digital our last year has been”.
