The Ethereum 2.0 testnet crashed on August 15, according to statements put out by developers on Twitter. The issue has been confirmed to do with Prysm and clock sync.
- Prysmatic Labs co-founder Preston Van Loon said that Prysm clients experienced a global outage for 90 minutes
- An emergency hotfix was released soon after
- Developers and the community alike highlighted the importance of testing before the mainnet
- The final Ethereum 2.0 testnet was launched on August 4
- Ethereum 2.0 brings proof-of-stake to the network and sharding to the network
- Expected to be released in a phased manner starting from sometime towards the end of the year
