Crypto-currency is the currency of the future. It is a currency that is not controlled by the government, and it is at a medium difficulty to obtain. Also depending on what cryptocurrency you want to mine it can be worth lots ,as 1 bitcoin typically costs between $18000-$24000. Anyway, lets get started.
Getting Started
To get ready for this you are going to need a couple of things. You are going to need at least 1GB of storage on the pi, you need a internet connection, you need a monereo wallet. (See this to get set up with a multi-wallet in guarda
Updating
In order for this to work you need your pi to be at the latest version in everything.
So run these:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get full-upgrade
If prompted to reboot with: reboot
Getting Dependencies
So in order for this to work you need to have some dependencies installed that the miner uses to run. To install these run the following:
sudo apt-get install -y raspbian-nspawn-64
Once this finishes type: ds64-shell to enter the 64-bit terminal. Once you are inside the 64-bit terminal run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get install git build-essential cmake libuv1-dev libssl-dev libhwloc-dev Once these finished reboot
Installing The Miner
The final step in mining cryptocurrency on the pi is installing the miner. In order to do this you need to run the following: git clone https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig.git cd xmrig && mkdir build && cd build && cmake .. && make Once this finishes you should already be in the directory in the 64-bit shell to run xmrig. But if not enter cd xmrig && cd build Once inside make sure you are inside the 64-bit shell inside the directories. Edit the following to your standards such as the pool and monero address. (NOTE: This is the only miner that works on the pi. All others work for 20 minutes then stop working. Also this can only mine monero ,but with guarda you can convert that monero into bitcoin. Also I choose minexmr.com because it seems to be the only monero mining pool that works with this.) ./xmrig --donate-level 1 -o pool.minexmr.com:4444 -u 47HqXyfRx6HAhazGSaDp5p3VFyNMtDviQCPo1xHn5hVgezGY1eLiNW4bep9wmi2gKrH8BWXeGH9bYPU9NKcbehRqJSdKWLc -p Pi Currently the mining address is mine and if you want to make money change it to your monero address.
