Bitcoin Miners Form New Group to Lobby for Friendly Policy

A new group of Bitcoin miners has been created to lobby for friendly policy towards the mining industry in the United States. The Digital Energy Council (DEC), as it’s called, will also advocate for policies that promote responsible and sustainable energy development, as well as grid resilience.

The DEC is led by Tom Mapes, who has worked on energy policy at the Chamber of Digital Commerce and the U.S. Department of Energy. The DEC has already garnered support from some policymakers, including U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Cynthia Lummis, both of whom have spoken favorably in the past about the positive developments in the energy sector that Bitcoin mining is driving.

The DEC is the first member association focused solely on the intersection of energy security and Bitcoin mining. In addition to lobbying activities related to U.S. policy, the organization's goals include dispelling misconceptions about Bitcoin mining, cultivating economic development in rural areas, and ensuring that mining is conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner.

The DEC is a sign of the growing influence of both Bitcoin miners and the wider Bitcoin community within the United States. As the Bitcoin space continues to grow and mature, the DEC could play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of energy policy.
