German auto-maker Volkswagen is keen on keeping its launch timeline of the ID.3 EV. The vehicle recently completed a 1,200 km (745 miles) trip, and the company CEO has provided a fresh update on the rollout of the ID.3. As per Hebert Diess, ID.3 cars are under production in its Zwickau factory since late 2019.
This factory will be converted into a dedicated EV car production facility while phasing out gasoline-based automobiles. The company’s idea was to accumulate enough vehicles until Summer 2020. However, it later surfaced that the vehicle was going through some software issues as well.
Fortunately, VW appears to be optimistic about launching the ID.3 by summer this year. It has previously reiterated that it will have up to 30,000 units ready to go at once. The company has also mentioned that its employees will get to test the car first to iron out any last-minute issues with the vehicle.
Diess shared this picture on LinkedIn with Ulbrich, indicating that development is still undergoing. Volkswagen has previously said that it aims to sell around 100,000 MEB platform based vehicles in 2020. It’s no surprise that VW expects the ID.3 sales to account for a majority of these vehicles.
The ID.3 will be available in a wide-range of options including a 77 kWh battery pack option which will offer 550 Km (342 miles) of range. Prices for the VW ID.3 will start from $33,000 (€30,000 in Europe) for the entry-level model.
A recent report talked about the VW ID.3 coming with additional accessories like a very impressive heads-up display, so it’s clear that the company is leaving no stone unturned in making this a success.
