Tesla may consider adding 'baby mode' to cope with loud notification sounds

Tesla is considering adding a new option called “Baby Mode” in future software updates, which can make the system inside the car quieter. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed on Twitter that he is “thinking about” adding a baby mode that would be even more quiet than Joe Mode.

For people that do not have kids, this feature might not help much, but parents often with little ones sleeping in the back of the car understands the frustrations with loud chimes and system beeps. Baby Mode aims to further reduce the volume of ringtones and alert sounds in the car, by optimizing the volume adjustment controls to cope with the situation where the louder alert sounds in the car wake up the sleeping baby.  However, the feature is still in its “infancy” stage at this point.

Joe Mode was released in V10 software update back in 2019. Enabling this mode will reduce the volume of in-car notification sounds by half. The instructions in the earlier software update confirmed that Joe Mode can indeed automatically control the ringtones in the car: “Enabling Joe Mode reduces the volume of your car’s chimes. The quieter chimes continue to alert the driver effectively and minimize disruption to passengers (e.g. Joe’s kids).”

It is reported that, according to consumer feedback, it is generally believed that Joe Mode is still insufficient for volume control of in-vehicle sounds. However, considering that there is no obvious difference in the essential meaning of Baby Mode and Joe Mode, eventually, Joe Mode will be adjusted to achieve the optimization of functional mode.
