Tesla Issues Software Update 2020.40 With Two New Features

Tesla has officially started rolling out a software update (2020.40) for its vehicles which will introduce two minor but useful features. The first of them is known as “Priority Bluetooth Device” which basically lets you set a priority device for the car to start playing music. This can avoid scenarios where the car automatically pairs with the last connected device.

Tesla provides some explanation in its release notes – “To avoid connecting to the wrong nearby phone, you can now set your priority Bluetooth device. Your car will attempt to connect to the priority device associated with the profile selected before it attempts to connect to other paired phones.

The second feature here is known as “Glovebox PIN”. This is essentially an extension of the Pin to Drive feature that can come in handy when your keys get stolen. Since the glovebox on the Model 3 and Model Y are operated on the touchscreen, this feature can be quite handy particularly if you’re looking to secure the glovebox before heading out.

As one would expect, Tesla is also including a handful of minor patches and bug fixes though they’re not listed by the manufacturer. Tesla owners can expect the update to hit their vehicles over the coming days. However, it’s important to note that since the manufacturer sends these updates in batches, it could take a few weeks to reach your Tesla depending on where you live.

Tesla has set a benchmark for rival EV makers, particularly with regard to new features. While conventional automakers generally release a new model for some features, Tesla makes it available to existing buyers which is one of the most exciting aspects of owning a Tesla.
