Today, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) announced the launch of the ICC AOKpass app in collaboration with medical and travel security firm International SOS, to verify the COVID-19 compliance status of individuals including immunity passports.

Co-developedby ICC’s blockchainpartner Perlin andstartup AOKpass, the solution will allow businesses and otherorganizations to screen employees and users for COVID-19, helpingthem resume pre-pandemic activities. International SOS is the firstpartner to pilot the solution for its employees that would allow thecontrolled resumption of work.

Userscan download the ICC AOKpass app on their mobile device and use it tostore a copy of their COVID-19 compliance certificate.

Blockchainis being leveraged by ICC AOKpass to ensure that the users are incontrol of their data, and only essential information is shared withthe employer, other authorities, and third-parties. A digital copy ofthe compliance certificate issued by a medical practitioner will bestored locally on the user’s device.  Thisaims to address concerns about data security and privacy and theability to share health information in a secure but verifiablemanner.

Additionally,ICC is developing standards for the AOKpass app so that it can beused globally. Previously, the EuropeanParliament ina statement demanded decentralization of data collected by COVID-19apps for privacy and security.

“ICCAOKpass is designed to be strictly controlled by individuals buteasily accessible when verification of COVID-19 compliance status isneeded,” said Chester Drum, co-founder of AOKpass, who is also amedical practitioner.

Nearlyevery industry is suffering the brunt ofthe pandemic, and government and other organizations are now exploring solutions toallow immune and low-risk individuals to return to work safely.

“Webelieve AOKpass will serve as a useful complement to government-ledefforts to use leading-edge technology to enable a gradual reboot ofthe global economy while ensuring public health,” said John W.H.Denton AO, Secretary-General of ICC.

Thesolution is customizable to meet the needs of companies andgovernments, i.e., for integrating new testing methods. While itaddresses the current crisis, the solution can be used forverification of other immunization and compliance records ofindividuals.

Interms of technology, we reached out to AOKpass to clarify whether ituses the W3C standard for verifiable credentials and to clarify whatis stored on the blockchain. We also contacted Perlin to clarifywhether the data will be stored on Ethereum. The article will beupdated when we receive responses.

Yesterday,Ledger Insights reported on blockchain ticketing platform TIXnGO’sblockchain health certificate solution, which has a similar function. Other solutions include the QDXHeath ID,UK’s OpenUniversity’s solutionusing a solid pod, and immunity passports by the COVIDCredentials initiative
