Atlanta Falcons announced today that they are bringing back the special teams tandem, punter Ryan Allen and place kicker Younghoe Koo, both on one-year deal extensions.
Koo, 25, will make $660,000 next season. He was quick to give a shout out to the Falcons via Twitter for taking a chance on him.
Younghoe Koo Stats
Koo was out of football since 2017. The Chargers cut him after just 4 games that season after missing critical potential game-winning field goals.
His 2017 stats actually didn’t end up being that bad to deserve being cut so early. He made 3 of 6 field goals (one of which was blocked), and he made all 9 extra points. It was just the timing of those misses that sealed his fate.
In 2019, the Falcons cut their long time kicker Matt Bryant after 8 games and signed Koo as replacement. He made 23 of 26 field goals and 15 of 16 extra points. But perhaps his most unrated stat comes from his trick shot kicks during onside kicks, when the Falcons converted three successful onside kicks in a row in a game. And he also won special teams player of week twice in the season.
