A researcher at the Ethereum Foundation said that Ethereum 2.0 might be postponed once more . His colleagues, however, don't see it that way.
In an AMA Reddit session held yesterday, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake said that Ethereum 2.0 won't be released until January 2021, much later than the 2020 launch the inspiration is believing in.
This would mark yet one more postponement to ETH 2.0, which has already suffered from several unforeseen events during the year. So, would we be with another one now?
Not quite, consistent with Vitalik Buterin - co-founder of Ethereum - in response to Justin on Reddit. Ethereum 2.0 "can happen well before that," he wrote during a comment.
Ethereum 2.0 is that the next version of the Ethereum blockchain. It transitions between a network with a symbol -of-work system - where transactions are validated by the facility of the miners - to at least one with a proof of stake system, during which users are rewarded for accumulating their coins.
After all, what's the trail to the supply of Ethereum 2.0?
For the launch to happen, Ethereum 2.0 needs, among other things, a public testnet and a bounty bug program running for 2 or three months, said Justin. "There is not any way that would happen within the third quarter of 2020," he adds. "I'm tending to mention that a better practical launch date would be something on the brink of January 3, 2021 (Bitcoin's 12th anniversary)."
Vitalik disagreed during a response to Justin's AMA. For him, work is fully swing. "I personally afflict that and that i would like to start out phase 0 well before that date [January 2021] no matter the phase it's in," he said. “I would say that a four-month deadline started for us in early July,” he stated, in regard to this month's launch of Altona, a testnet for Ethereum 2.0.
Why does Vitalik think Ethereum 2.0 remains on its thanks to launch this year?
Vitalik said that the primary phase of Ethereum 2.0 "is in some ways simpler than eth1 and, in others, more complex." The transition to a proof-of-stake network, abandoning the present proof-of-work system, is among its complexities, but it's no harder to implement than the first blockchain, consistent with Vitalik.
“I believe eth2's phase 0 may be a little simpler on-net. additionally , eth2 will haven't any critical application counting on it until phase 1, therefore the real risks are less, ”he said. "So, on the entire , I see no reason why it might take us longer to succeed in the eth2 phase 0 launch cycle than we did to launch eth1," he concluded.
Justin wasn't much at it. “The sad reality is that we aren't yet ready from the purpose of view of security. there's no program to get errors and encourage attacks on the network, or anything like that. ”
