Will This Web3 Game Explode in 2024?

Investing in single games is the riskiest way to move into web3 gaming. Getting into gaming studios or infrastructure is automatic diversification, which is something you want to master if you're looking to make money in crypto. But I make an exception for this game, as it's unlike any I've seen in the web3 space so far.

The bull market is getting ready to roll and endless dev teams are trying to pull your liquidity away with rushed, facile copypasta projects. You'll know them if you stick around crypto gaming long enough. The lame vector graphics, cheap joint motion animation, templates sourced from well-known games and skinned over with assets you've seen 30 other times in 30 other games.

But not Memelordz ($LORDZ)! Let's check out why.

Game Story

On a skintight budget, Memelordz managed to create 100+ hours of exciting RPG content based around the lore of popular meme culture. It fits web3's aloof Millennial sense of humor perfectly, and the storyline is actually quite immersive. Without spoiling, you are a hero coming to save the inhabitants of Memnon from an unknown force that takes the form of fighting enemies as varied as Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian or David Icke (all with personalized attacks) in turn-based Final Fantasy style fight scenes, a consistently funny game loop in this open world RPG.

The Business

After creating the full game, the original devs ran out of money to market and the game suffered. Even though Memelordz was completed on time during last year's bear market, no one was playing it and the $LORDZ token was tanking.

After a great deal of behind the scenes tinkering, the original devs decided to sell the game to a group that had more runway to market. The $LORDZ token did a 10X on the news. This is one of the few examples I've seen of a successful handoff in crypto where both parties were actually legitimately trying to grow the business.

Aside from the memeability of the game, the project also has decent tokenomics. Not the best. Minting characters is done in the native $LORDZ token, so every time someone new plays the game, there is a sink. If the game rises in popularity, the sink increases.

The game will introduce play to earn elements, but the says they are creating a new token for in-game currency. This isn't the best idea. I'm not a fan of two token systems when one will suffice. However, I'm willing to buy the $LORDZ token because of the following conditions:

  • The market capitalization of the project is only $1M
  • Investoors don't read FAQs in bull markets
  • The game actually will get more popular. Why?
    • They are bringing it to mobile (highly important)
    • The memes & celebrity characterizations are legitimately funny

And if it doesn't work out for a 100X, Memelordz are a low cost giveaway I can use to build my Twitter. XD
