A while ago we heard that Reddit was going to launch its own cryptocurrency.
Some people speculated the platform would tokenise Karma points.
Reddit has been at the centre of some controversy due to the unique way it's run.
In essence, Reddit did the smart thing and gave Reddit moderator the power to edit, delete, and moderate content.
These people are NOT being by Reddit.
So whether they're doing this because they're bored or because they genuinely they're making a difference, they're essentially performing a job... for free.
Good for them.
Reddit has become an arena, a forum, where people mostly share leaks and rumours.
This type of social media generally doesn't last (remember Tumblr?) but, a bit like FB, while the platform is under constant scrutiny and criticism from an editorial standpoint, it is doing pretty well financially.
A old-fashioned IPO is also in the rumours, and Reddit might go public in the near future.
As for the crypto part, I should point out that the rumours of Karma points being tokenised dates back to late 2021, back when every man and his dog was launching his own crypto, and they were all mooning.
Also, Reddit already has MOON, its native token, which is distributed among users on a "whoever-the-fcuk-knows-basis"
So perhaps Karma points will remain what they are: quite pointless.
