Digital health refers to the use of information and communications technologies in medicine and other health professions to manage illnesses and health risks and to promote wellness. While digital health is a simple concept – using technology to improve the health and fitness of individuals – it is a broad and growing sector. It can cover everything from wearable gadgets to ingestible sensors, from mobile health apps to artificial intelligence, and from robotic caregivers to electronic records. In fact, it is the application of digital transformation through disruptive technologies and cultural changes in healthcare. The broad scope of digital health includes categories such as mobile health (mHealth), health information technology (IT), wearables, telehealth and telemedicine, and personalized medicine.

From mobile medical apps and software that support doctors' clinical decisions every day, to artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital technologies have revolutionized healthcare. Digital health tools have enormous potential to improve our ability to accurately diagnose and treat disease and improve the delivery of health care to individuals. Digital health technologies utilize computing platforms, connectivity, software, and sensors for healthcare and related uses. These technologies cover a wide range of uses, from general wellness applications to medical device applications. They include technologies intended for use as a medical product, in a medical product, as an accompanying diagnostic, or as a supplement to other medical products (devices, drugs, and biological preparations). They can also be used to develop or study medical products.
