Undeniably this is #MyUplandCity

When this contest was first announced, I have no intention of writing. I don’t live near a city and the closest city that I live in IRL wasn’t that exciting.

I left it at that and hadn’t given it a second thought. However, participating in the Twitter giveaway was another thing. I’d forgotten about it until a fellow writer friend reminded me of it and the writing contest.

I did my part as a good Upland citizen. I tweeted about the contest. Felt good about it and have a feeling that it’s got a good chance to win something.

Somehow, that tweet and my friend’s reminder to participate have gotten me to take a second look at the contest.

True, I love Upland. True I love it so much that before I started playing the game, I gave it some careful thoughts before choosing a suitably fitting profile name. Yes, I am UplandDood! I live in Upland. I live in the Metaverse.

My Upland City!

However I look at it, the contest’s hashtag stood out. In fact, it’s in your face kinda stood out. It’s about #MyUplandCity!

Once I’m certain that the idea clicked and fits into my narrative, the next step is to start writing. I know many will write about their city and why it should be included in the Upland Metaverse. In truth, that would be about #MyFavouriteCity or #MySubmissionforUplandCity! Furthermore, I don’t live in a city and don’t have a favorite city that I live close to. Nevertheless, #MyUplandCity has gotten my eyes lit up. I'll now tell you why.

My World - the Metaverse

I love my Metaworld. It is where I live.

It is a place where all of us are equal. No one care if you’re a donkey, a farmer, a superstar, or just a block with a head, torso, hands, and legs. The Metaverse sun shines equally on all of us.

Upland - My World

I have been an Upland Citizen since the end of September 2020. I went through all the visa requirements as everyone else before being accepted as a citizen.

My very first property was in San Francisco, followed by a few more properties there and in neighboring Fresno. In a little less than a month, New York  City opened up with much fanfare in the Upland Metaverse and a mad rush to Little Italy, as I recalled. I ended up in New York with my first Manhattan property being 115 Mulberry St in Little Italy. The buying spree has started.

Manhattan did it for me. Prior to this, I’d only heard horror stories of how dangerous New York is. But my perception has changed since I landed in Upland’s New York late last year and bought that first property.

Why I love My Upland City

1. Better than Geography in School

Ever since landing in Manhattan, I fell in love with it. Though I have never visited New York in real life, I’d put in so much time in researching it that I probably know it better than the city closest to where I live.

Wikipedia described it as the “cultural, financial, and media capital of the world”.

i. New York is rich in Arts and Culture
  • Upland’s “Last Act Collection" is a tribute to New York’s global arts and cultural role; specifically highlighting New York’s Broadway Theaters.
ii. New York is the Financial Capital of the World
  • Upland’s “Wall St. Collection" is a tribute to that.
iii. New York is the Media Capital of the World
  • Upland’s “Media Capital” collection is a tribute to leading media companies located in Manhattan.

2. Fulfilling Dreams

Since I started playing the game, I was able to own properties in San Francisco, Fresno, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Oakland, Chicago, and Cleveland. This wouldn’t have been possible if not for Upland.

Price-wise, aside, I mean, where on earth would you be able to purchase properties without going through all the legal red-tapes before taking possession?

Upland made this possible.

I count myself fortunate to be able to own some of the most interesting properties in the Upland Metaverse in Manhattan.

I’ll briefly share with you a few. In real life, it wouldn’t have been possible for me to own a pier (Pier 57), a national monument (Grant’s Tomb), a psychiatric hospital (NY State Psychiatric Institute), or an 1810 farmhouse that traveled across Manhattan to its final location at St Charles St. to name a few.

One of my all-time favorite finds was when I discovered the property that’s the birthplace of Santa Claus. This was a very significant find and a well-hidden gem in New York that not many know about.

You can read in more detail those mentioned and some of my other treasured properties here (I've added Brooklyn for your reading pleasure) – Manhattan Properties & Brooklyn Properties.

3. #MyUplandCity – Manhattan

Manhattan has found a special place in my heart. It is a city that I had grown to like. It is probably the only city that I’ve ever spent so much time studying and researching.

It is a city that grows on you. And best of all, it is a city that never sleeps, much like the Metaverse.

Since Manhattan is already a city in the Upland Metaverse, my proposal is simple: Make Manhattan the Capital of the Upland Metaverse for all of the above reasons.

Thank you for reading. If you’re not already playing this game, all I can say is that you’re missing out.

Come, join me. You are invited to sign up here if you like.
