Ubisoft, after several years exploring blockchain technology, finally enters the world of NFTs games. This is the first digital collectible platform for AAA games. This is an experimental project in beta phase from Ubisoft's Strategic Innovation Lab.
Announcing Ubisoft Quartz, the company's new platform is based on the Proof-of-Stake protocol and built on the Tezos ecosystem. The Tezos blockchain is energy efficient, unlike Proof-of-Work based blockchains.
According to Ubisoft, energy consumption is equal to that of a standard database, helping to reduce environmental impact.
Ubisoft Quartz, having a Blockchain-Powered NFT cosmetics system, players will be able to acquire Digits which are Ubisoft's first NFTs. Digits will be available primarily on the Ubisoft Connect PC platform and in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Breakpoint game.
Digits are exclusive NFTs and will be limited to each Edition. They represent in-game cosmetic playable items and can range from vehicles to weapons through equipment.
Digits will be able to be sold on an authorized third party market and players will be able to use the profits as they wish.
To participate, the requirements are:
Be at least 18 years old;
Play Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Breakpoint on the Ubisoft Connect PC platform;
Reach at least XP Level 5 in the game;
Enable 2-factor authentication for Ubisoft Connect;
Reside in the following eligible regions: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, USA.
Additionally, players will only be able to acquire 1 Digit of each unique Edition.
To use Ubisoft Quartz it is also necessary to connect to a crypto wallet compatible with the platform to host the Digits.
Another additional information is that Ubisoft Connect platform uses Aleph technology which is a decentralized storage solution used to store item metadata in a secure and flexible way.
Ubisoft Quartz will be released on December 9th, limited to three Digits types. And will be available: a 'Wolves' skin for the M4A1 Tactical rifle, a helmet, and a pair of pants. These Digits will be free and the drops will take place on December 9, 12 and 15, for a limited time. To claim the rifle, players are required to have reached XP level 5, the pants must have played at least 100 hours and the helmet 600 hours.
In this first drop, the focus will only be on the most engaged players and NFT cosmetics that don't affect gameplay.
For 2022 the plans are to release new Digit drops, including handguns, helmets, rifles, and even vehicles for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® Breakpoint.
