Twitter is putting together a team that will look into blockchain technology, crypto, Dapps and non-fungible tokens. Through this team, the social media giant plans to boost the decentralized technology sector.

The team will be spearheaded by Tess Rinearson, who formerly worked in the development of Tendermint Core. Rinearson has also worked in other notable initiatives such as Cosmos and Chain.com.

Twitter puts together a crypto unit

Rinearson revealed details about the creation of this team in a Twitter thread. This team will work together to look into the sectors of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and other decentralized technologies.

“I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined Twitter, to lead a new team focused in crypto, blockchains, and other decentralized technologies – including and going beyond cryptocurrencies.”

She also stated that the team would also work on improving the features of the Twitter tipping feature that currently supports Bitcoin (BTC/USD). Moreover, the team will also work to make Twitter a more crypto savvy social media platform.

As I build out the team, we’ll be working to figure out what crypto can do for Twitter, as well as what Twitter can do for crypto. Twitter truly “gets” crypto (hello Bitcoin tipping & NFTs!), but there’s so much more to explore here.

The team will operate under the name “Twitter Crypto”, and it will be responsible for working with everything regarding Web 3.0. Rinearson also stated there would be open positions related to engineering and product, and interested individuals could contact her to enrol for these positions.

Twitter is supportive of crypto

Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, is one of the most vocal Bitcoin supporters. Dorsey has previously stated that Bitcoin could be the currency of the internet and even noted that it could “create world peace.”

The newly launched tipping feature allows users to tip their favourite creators using Bitcoin. The feature is powered by the Lightning Network. Recently, the Twitter CEO unveiled the Bluesky initiative. Through this platform, users select what they will see on their social media pages, giving them more control.

If launched, the Bluesky initiative would be a major game-changer for the social media company, as it will help it compete with similar projects such as Hive and Minds.
