Time to Wave the White Flag on Whitelists?

If we were to make a list of buzzwords from the NFT spaces for 2021, certainly "whitelist" would make the cut. But, as we look to the new year ahead in an ecosystem that evolves at warp speeds we see that some go-to trends are getting left behind.

Surfing various Twitter Spaces is the best way to get 'the word on the street' it seems, and the buzz in many circles is that the infamous 'whitelist' is becoming obsolete. What you might not know is that it costs creators of an NFT project to add a person to the list. Several report that the excitement of being whitelisted brings people into the discord, but those same people often leave well before the mint date. This means the project spends resources adding members to a whitelist they may not have truly been interested in being put on in the first place. With the common practice of creating contests, buzz & excitement projects will offer giveaways in conjunction with the whitelist only to later report they aren't worth the paper no one prints them onto anyway.

As we look to 2022, innovation & creativity will be crucial to keeping your marketing strategies fresh and a step ahead. What worked for one project in early 2021 may not work at all for the next big thing. Challenge yourself and your team to build communities for your projects organically & to keep your finger on the pulse of what's to come by immersing yourself into Twitter Spaces, Youtube & Discord.
