The Randomness of Nois Network in the Cosmos ecosystem

Do repost and rate:

Thanks to , a randomized airdrop mode, much has been said in recent weeks about  and the importance of fairness and reliability within networks and applications. Lotteries, governance, security, randomness in process and user selection are just a few examples of the application of truly unbiased and mathematically unpredictable decentralized randomization

Nois is a blockchain developed using the Cosmos SDK framework and Tendermint consensus, which aims to provide unpredictable randomness to the Cosmos ecosystem through the Inter-blockchain Communication protocol. Due to its infrastructure and the secure and unbiased randomness generated by , a decentralized network of trusted institutions and organizations, Nois can offer randomization service to all IBC and CosmWasm protocol-enabled networks.

To integrate Nois into the various IBC-compatible blockchains, it is necessary to implement the nois-proxy, which acts as an external contract to bring randomization to the network’s dApps. Nois is permissionless, so any network can integrate it by following the appropriate procedures.

Possible applications

As mentioned earlier, the unbiased randomness of Nois has multiple applications in the world of decentralized applications and blockchain in general. As of now, three networks are furthest along in the adoption process of the proxy: Juno, Stargaze, and Injective.

As any cosmonaut knows, the Juno network has distinguished itself from the other protocols in the ecosystem by creating the DAO_DAO platform, through which anyone can easily create, manage and actively participate in the evolution of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization. The problem arises when it comes to electing representatives of individual organizations, a small circle of members usually configured into a Sub-DAO

Election of the sub-DAO by ballot can be subject to many distortions, such as leading to the election of only those candidates who can afford expensive campaigns or who have such a strong position in the community as to influence preferences. With Nois-proxy, these elections can become impartial through randomness. Anyone who wants to run for sub-DAO would have an equal chance of being drawn and then elected, and the results would be transparent and verifiable by all.

Particularly in larger DAOs, this system can promote more equitable governance by empowering lesser-known and therefore less influential members of the community. To further improve the selection process, randomness and voting could also be combined in a kind of two-round election, with a first random selection and a second intentional and direct one. This system, once fine-tuned, could be successfully replicated in any context that needs greater transparency in governance.

INJECTIVE

The arrival of the Nois-proxy on Injective network is near, the proposal has been approved, and the whole community is already thinking about possible applications. During the last , some Injective Lab developers had already started experimenting with the potential of this tool, creating the Noisacle, an oracle for prices that exploits the randomness generated by Nois.

With the adoption of the proxy, developers on this chain will have full access to the randomness of Nois and can leverage it to implement their dApps. On platforms with Injcasino.io, for example, this tool could be used to improve transparency and unpredictability in  to make the experience even more enjoyable for players.

STARGAZE

Stargaze, an ecosystem blockchain dedicated entirely to NFTs and, more recently, blockchain gaming, the adoption of the proxy has yet to be voted on, but it can be assumed that community approval will be nearly unanimous. Again, it was pointed out during the last Cosmoverse that Nois randomness could have improved transparency in the NFT minting process

In particular, when it is the rarity of different NFTs in a collection that is at stake, all minting participants must have an equal chance of obtaining the rarest pieces in a collection. While already present, it is possible (albeit complicated) for developers with important means and specific hardware to predict in advance where in the course of minting the rarest NFTs are to be found. In some cases, the price difference between a common NFT and a rare or even unique one in a collection is abysmal.

Making minting fairer is certainly one of the most interesting and significant uses of Nois on the Stargaze network. As the universe of  on this network expands, especially related to collection-related gaming, developers will benefit from the randomness provided by Nois in ways yet to be explored.

Participating in governance

Like the other sovereign networks in the ecosystem, Nois is a Proof of Stake network whose security depends on staking its governance token, . So far, if you are an early investor you can your $NOIS through these platforms:

  • QuickStake
  • nois-stake.d-stake.xyz

With Restake you will be able not only to stake your tokens but also to enable automatic investment of rewards (APY is around 30 percent).

By staking $NOIS, in addition to the rewards you will earn the opportunity to participate in the protocol governance and affect decisions that will determine future developments in the network. By logging on to this portal and connecting your wallet, you will able to participate in future governance proposals.

Randdrop and Community pool allocation

Users of the three networks mentioned above, along with users of the Aura blockchain, will have a first-hand experience of unbiased and verifiable randomness thanks to , the form of random airdrop that the Nois team wanted to adopt to distribute part of the $NOIS token supply. Only one-third of the wallets found to be eligible for this airdrop will, in fact, actually receive it, so that some lucky users can benefit from a larger amount of NOIS. For more information on eligibility requirements, I refer you to a previous article

Randdrop is not the only benefit that early network communities will receive from adopting Nois randomness. The team has allocated part of the Genesis supply of $NOIS to this chains that can use them, for example, to fund the randomness used by dApps, participate in Nois governance through staking, or sell them to other investors to fund blockchain-related activities. Another great gift made by the Nois team to fuel the branching of randomness throughout the ecosystem.

As specified by the team, Stargaze, Juno, Aura, and Injective are only the first four blockchains to adopt Nois’ randomness. The proxy can be adopted on any IBC-compatible network, so it is easy to expect widespread deployment across the ecosystem and other randdrops. With its technology, Nois Network can succeed in the crucial mission of improving reliability and transparency within the Cosmos ecosystem.
