Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency based on an internet meme - the famous "doge". Although it was originally a cryptocurrency joke, and its creators abandoned it a few years ago, its price breaks records in 2021. Currently, it costs $ 0.63, although a month ago it was ... $ 0.008. Since the beginning of the year, the Dogecoin course has increased by over 13 thousand. percent, and from the beginning of its existence by 217 thousand. percent

Along with the price rally, dogecoin has become the fourth largest cryptocurrency on the market in terms of capitalization, currently amounting to $ 81 billion. This is more than companies such as Adidas ($ 60 billion), Ferrari ($ 54 billion), Vodafone ($ 53 billion), Airbus ($ 75 billion) or two big European banks: Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank, taken together ($ 55 billion).

Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus created Dogecoin for a joke in 2014, and the price of the cryptocurrency has long held at $ 0.0001--0.0002. This means that people who bought dogecoin for a thousand dollars in 2014 and have kept it until today are now becoming millionaires.

In 2021, dogecoin owes its popularity to, inter alia, Billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who frequently posts cryptocurrency memes on his Twitter. He also popularized the slogan "dogecoin to the moon", or "dogecoin to the moon", which is supposed to mean an increase in the rate resembling a rocket flying into space.

The creator of dogecoin would be a millionaire ... if he hadn't sold everything

Unlike many cryptocurrency makers, however, Markus did not become a millionaire. Dogecoin was created not only for a joke, but also by accident, and the developers did not want to get too involved in his life. Palmer worked as a product manager at Adobe and Markus as a software engineer at IBM. "One evening after work, I sat down with a beer in my hand, I had too much time, and I bought Dogecoin.com," recalled Palmer. Markus helped him make it a real working cryptocurrency.

Both with Palmer, as they said, had 50 million dogecoins each from the beginning, which was then worth around 5,000. dol. They managed to dig up coins "only" for 10 thousand. dollars, which they shared in half.

Markus, however, in 2015 stated that he did not want to participate and sold all of his cryptocurrencies, including dogecoins. He earned about 10 thousand. dollars, and the money was used to buy a Honda Civic and pay off the rent. Today, his coins would be worth around $ 30 million.

The original meme, in Poland, Doge was translated into "Piesel"

It's important to note, however, that both Palmer and Markus are generally rather skeptical of cryptocurrencies. Although, when they saw that dogecoin was gaining some popularity, they decided to use it "to do good" - and numerous dogecoins for charity.

Palmer, who now runs a YouTube channel, also says that cryptocurrencies are "a solution to a problem someone is just looking for." He emphasizes that dogecoin "does not solve any problem". "If anything, it could be an educational tool. It's a reminder that we can't take it all seriously," warns Palmer.
