Temple Wallet Enables Fiat Top-Up

Temple is a cryptocurrency wallet for the Tezos blockchain. The platform announced on March 8th that users can now replenish their Tezos using their bank cards and fiat currency.

Allowing users to top up their cryptocurrency with their bank cards and fiat currency is an essential stage for any digital wallet. It opens the platform to a broader audience, especially the cohort of people who may not have the technical know-how to navigate the blockchain world.

This update might also affect the Tezos blockchain and its native coin, XTZ. Since Temple’s announcement, the coin has gone up in value by 9.5%. While this rise reflects a general increase across the cryptocurrency market, and the XTZ appreciation can’t necessarily be linked to the platform’s Twitter post, it will be interesting to keep an eye on the coin moving forward.

A bit more about Temple

Temple is a browser extension wallet for interacting with the Tezos blockchain. The project began in 2020 and is open-source. Users can create, import, and manage multiple accounts within the extension in one interface.

The Tezos blockchain was first proposed by Arthur Breitman and Kathleen Breitman in 2014. The non-profit Tezos Foundation is based in Zug, Switzerland and although the symbol for its native currency is XTZ, it’s actually called tez. One of its unique design features is that the blockchain is self-amending. What this means is that when a proposal is approved by holders of XTZ, it updates automatically without the need for in-person discussion.

The network reaches consensus using a liquid proof-of-stake model. This means that anyone who stakes XTZ will receive newly-minted XTZ as a reward for validating blocks in the blockchain.
