From Covid-19 lockdowns and mandates to crypto-currency, blockchain and NFTs, how the world trades and how we function within that economy is changing. With these changes, and the ones coming, we are processing the same things every other generation before us encountered when they were presented with change. The FUD. Fear, uncertainty and doubt. You'll hear about it numerous times a day if you're keeping current with influencers, commentators or news curators of any kind.
The important thing to remember throughout all of this speculation is: this progressive evolutionary process IS NOT NEW
As a society, we've been through this a number of times and as the whole of humanity we've done it countless times. Don't lose your mind. Don't lose Global pandemics aren't new. Tense political climates aren't new. Unstable markets aren't new. Technological development isn't new.
Some things are new however. You and I, the "common folk" have unprecedented access to a vast amount of information at our fingertips anytime, anywhere (which is something in and of itself we have had to grapple with and learn how to handle healthily). We have a relatively less volatile world stage including less tribal / clan type warfare, so much so that it's considered uncivilized to even think that ethnic cleansing is normal. We have increasing life expectancy, more access to affordable healthcare and even clean water. In spite of the bumps in the road that we face together, we are paving the way towards a bright future.
This new technology, like others before it, can serve as a great tool or a dangerous weapon. There's no shortage of people sharing their imaginings of bad scenarios for what things like the Metaverse, Decentraland, VR, AR and cloud integration could bring. Images of people being hooked up to machines 24/7 becoming hollowed husks and drooling sacks of flesh addicted to the virtual universe and unable to function in the real world will continue to circulate.
However I see endless possibilities on the horizon. We're seeing yet again what it looks like to tap into human creativity and potential to solve problems as they present themselves. Blockchain technology is an amazing response to the growing concerns of sovereignty and censorship. This is the perfect climate for entrepreneurs, investors and consumers to build relationships and do what they do best: identify problems and build better systems and solutions to solve them.
Throughout the coming months I look forward to connecting with you and exploring these new uncharted waters we're heading into and talking about practical ways we can rise above the FUD. The less we let fear and a narrow vision of the future guide our decisions the better we are set up to take positive, forward action today and everyday.
