Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Back to Basics Ruleset

Every week there is a SPLINTERLANDS challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Back to Basics rule set. I also encourage  players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Back to the BaciscFire & Regret. All monsters have no abilities and all ranged attacks are countered. There are also 41 mana available and I am left with the choice of water, life or dragon

The summoner I choose to use this time is Grandmaster Rathe. In this match, having void armor is beneficial because magic attacks will hit my armor first with the extra +1 armor. The amplify won't be helpful in this match because I can't reflect any damage though. I can also play cards to the highest level

My plan is to use high armor monsters up front with the rest of my team focused around magic damage. I have Imperial Knight up front due to it's high armor and decent health. Then I have time meddler up 2nd because of it's armor. After that is all my damage dealers which are all focused around magic to bypass any armor my opponent may have.

At first glance, I think that I have an advantage due to my summoner and the fact that magic attacks have to go through my armor first. It could still go either way though but my magic monsters will go through my opponent's armor.

I was able to take out one of my opponent's monsters and deal some damage to the 2nd monster. My first monster only lost it's armor and a few health in return.

I was able to take out a 2nd monster on my opponent and I only lost 1 card. At this point, there is not chance for me to lose this match because of all the magic damage that I have. My opponent has to get through my void armor and I can go straight to my opponent's health.

A few rounds later, I won the match.

The battle went exactly as I expected. Having void armor on my summoner was a great benefit because back to the basics removed all monster abilities. So I focused more on getting enough magic damage dealers while having some tanky monsters up front. This worked out because I was able to kill off my opponent faster than he could kill me. Void armor was the largest reason why I won but I also feel like the opponent did not play according to the ruleset properly. I feel that there could have been a few better options but he was playing with level 1 cards.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
